Facial ageing is not just about wrinkles. It happens at every level of the face, from the bone to the surface of the skin. Understanding these changes is the key to treatment that restores, rather than simply fills.
bone changes
With age, the facial bones lose density and gradually shrink. The eye sockets widen, the cheekbones lose projection and flatten, the jaw becomes shorter and narrower, the chin gets smaller, and the shape of the forehead changes. All of this removes support from the skin and muscles above.
Replacing lost bony support in the right places, often with dermal filler, is one of the foundations of a natural, youthful result.
soft tissue changes
The face contains many separate fat pads at different depths. With age they shrink, shift and sag. The cheeks hollow and flatten, the lines from the nose to the mouth and from the mouth to the chin deepen, and jowls begin to form. The upper and middle face lose fullness while the lower face looks heavier.
